2007 Thunderbird Pacific Northwest Championship

The 2007 Thunderbird Northwest Regional Championship was held in Seatgtle at Shilshole Bay on Puget Sound, on Saturday and Sunday June 9th and June 10th.
Nine Thunderbirds registered but Compound X from San Diego could not make it. Fandango came from Tacoma are (Gig Harbor) and Swan came from Silverdale (north of Bremerton). Raptor came from Bainbridge Island across the Sound from Shilshole Bay. The rest were from the Seattle fleet.
The weather was wet and windy with moderate tempatures. The tidal currents were moderate. On Saturday is poured rain all day. The six races sailed on Saturday were in good breezes; white caps early, moderating during the day. There was more wind on Sunday but no rain.
In all, eleven races were sailed in almost ideal conditions. For the most part racing was close with four Thunderbirds winning a race and five finishing in second place.
Invader prevailed by t he narrowest margin over Fandango on a tie breaker. Each had 22 points counting the best 10 races. Fandango won the last race which is the tie breaker sometimes. This time the tie was broken on the number of first place finishes. Invader had one more than Fandango.
The regatta was a great warm-up for the Internationals coming in Victoria in July.
