Cruising

Fathers Day 2009 Thunderbird Cruise to Port Madison Yacht Club (PMYC)

PMYC has graciously offered to include us in their weekend of activities this coming Fathers Day weekend (June 19, 20 & 21). They have an assortment of events going on that weekend, including the 6-Meter “Lipton Cup”, their summer solstice potluck, and us.

Here’s what the Fleet 2 Cruise is looking like:

 1) Friday 6-19. Arrive over at Port Madison on Friday night and BBQ at the club. There are BBQ’s on the patio and we are welcome to use them. They also have space for us to throw up tents in the event that you’d rather tent than sleep on your boat.

 2) Sat 6-20. Casual breakfast on the dock at your leisure, then a fun oriented race out in the bay. Kemp might bring his power boat over and act as the race committee, but if not, Ken Lane has got us covered. We’re shooting for a 12-noon start, but that might be adjusted slightly, depending on conditions and what’s happening with the Lipton Cup.

 3) Sat-PM. BBQ at PMYC on Saturday night and hang out with the 6-Meter folks around the clubhouse. There is also a potluck happening at the club that night, but I’m still waiting for details on that one….I’ll let you know when they are available.

 4) Sunday 6-21. Some folks will head back early to spend time with their own Dads and the rest of us will either do a group sail home, or just head back when you feel like it.

For those that haven’t been, Port Madison is located only about an hours motor across from Shilshole: N47 41 53  W122 31 44. If you head out of the Shilshole channel on a magnetic heading of 280 degrees for 5 miles, then bank a left on a heading of 169 degrees, you’re there. It is very protected and really makes you feel that you’re a long way from the city, even though it just across the sound.

Prepare to be more or less fully self contained for this trip. We will have access to the bathrooms, BBQs, kitchen and clubhouse, but plan on bringing anything that you might need with you, as stores are a bit difficult to access from the dock. This is a kid/family friendly event, so bring your kids to join in on the fun.

Ken Lane is helping to coordinate dock space for us, but to do that, we need to get a head count ASAP. Currently, we have the following boats committed to going, but we do have room for a few more, so please chime in if you think that you can make it:

 1) Hussy

2) Zoe

3) Rev

4) Kintra

5) Valkyrie

6) Barbaree and/or Laurie T

7) Puffy (AKA Cloud Dancing)

So, who’s invited? Anyone who has a Tbird and wants to go cruise with the fleet.

What do you have to do?

 1) Send me a note ASAP and let me know that you’re coming so we can secure some dock space for you.

2) Bring whatever you’re going to need for the weekend…think “self contained”.

3) Be ready to have a lot of fun with the folks at PMYC & Fleet 2.

That’s it for now. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to give me a call or e-mail and I’ll be happy to help.

 Regards,

 Jim
