Housing Recommendations for

Seattle International Thunderbird Regatta.

June 29 to July 4. 2003

Go to Travelhero.com for a great site to book hotels at good prices.

Shilshole Marina is in Ballard. There are no hotels in Ballard or none that I would tell anyone about. The Universities in town are unable to provide housing for the regatta. Here is a selection of Motels and Hotels close to Ballard that I have checked out.

Make Housing Reservations Soon! Even though summer in Seattle never starts before July 5, hotels are filling up quick.

MOTELS: These are on Aurora Avenue, about 5 miles from Shilshole. They are tricky to get to as Aurora is a two way street but has a barricade down the middle. Prices do not include tax.

Marco Polo Motel 206-633-4090

4114 Aurora Ave. N

Seattle, WA 98103

Clean and neat rooms. All have refrigerator and microwave in the room. Laundry facilities are available. They also have HBO. Smoking and non-smoking rooms

$56 for double. Make give rate for the week.

Comments: I would stay here. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. The price is about average for Motels in the area. This would be my first pick for reasonable price, cleanliness and proximity to the marina. If a bunch of Thunderbird people stay there it could be fun!

Aurora Seafair Inn 206-424-3600

9100 Aurora Ave N 1-800-445-9297

Seattle, WA 98103

Clean and neat rooms. There are two different sections a newer and an older. The older is a little dated. Refrigerator and microwave in every room. Room with Kitchenette available. Smoking and non-smoking rooms. Will take pets for $5.00 more per night.

Queen $58 (one person)

King $65 +tax

2 Queens $68 (two people) $75 (three people) $80 (four people)

Kitchenette $315 for the week.

Comments: I would stay here. I would ask for the newer rooms in the annex. Comparable to the Marco Polo but farther north.

Evergreen Inn 206-789-1888

8201 Aurora Ave North 1-800-557-7008

Seattle, WA 98103

Rooms are clean and neat, but a little beat up. They have a microwave and refrigerator in the rooms. Traffic on Aurora is less noticeable here. They cater to longer stays.

Double room (queen bed) $58

Weekly rate $320

Comments: This would not be my first choice. Rooms are fine, but building looks like it has received some rough treatment.

Thunderbird Motel 206-634-1213

4251 Aurora Ave. N 1-800 636-1213

Seattle, WA 98103

Older motel. Rooms clean but smell musty. Hotel is pretty beat up. Room door locks do not seem secure.

Double, Queen bed $46.

Double, King $50

Weekly rates $210 to #260 depending on the number of people. With kitchenette $5 more.

Comments: Nice name but I wouldn’t stay here.

HOTELS: All of these are nice hotels and a little farther away from the marina. Book these now! There is a large convention in town and hotels are filling FAST!
