Fleet 13 Annual Awards Banquet Report

 On Saturday November 5th family, friends and crew from the Evergreen Fleet met at Duane and Lisa Emnott’s house for a pot luck salmon dinner, a great feast with a variety of dishes that pleased the pallet.  During dinner stories and experiences from this past season where exchanged proving that with the regionals in Victoria , a few cruises about the sound, the Center for Wooden Boats rendezvous, a pile of PHRF racing and our own fleet championships 2005 has been an event filled sailing adventure.

 Following dinner a general meeting was called to order by President Mark Hoffman.  The treasures report was given by Duane Emnott who reported a positive balance in the account.

 Awards where presented for the 2005 Fleet 13 Championship;

1st         Kalua                          Duane Emnott

2nd        Cloud Dancing  Mark Hoffman

3rd        Lila                               Jon Reckinger

 A discussion on the possibility of a Fleet 13 web site was bantered about the room and determined that at this time the need was overshadowed by cost and management time required so the idea was tabled.

A discussion on the upcoming 50th birthday of the t-bird was next.  Suzy Brunzell reported on a meeting she attended at Fleet 1 earlier in the week. Fleet 1 is very interested in the 50th anniversary and planning has begun.

In anticipation of the 50th Fleet 13 has decided to retrace a cruise described in the archival scrap books of the early days of the fleet.  There is an account of the trip from the early sixties that took the members from Everett and Edmonds to Port Townsend, through the San Juan Islands,  Gulf Islands and over to the Victoria Yacht Club. The original trip was about two weeks.

Most in attendance felt a one week tour more likely to be successful and a plan was adopted to pare the itinerary to 9 days with a tentative date of departure July 14 returning July 23rd.  This would have all back in the area for the CWB Rendezvous Aug. 4-6. Finalization of the cruise will come after conformation of dates for the 2006 Regionals and hopefully co-ordination with other fleets that would join 13 on the adventure.

Goals for the cruise will be to trace as much of the original route as possible, visit with t-bird fleets along the way, and promote the upcoming 50th.

Last point of business was how to get more of the local boats involved with Fleet 13 activities.  After much head scratching it was determined we would continue to contact them, continue to invite them on future activities and continue to attract them through examples of how much fun is to be had out on the water in a t-bird by telling the stories.

Meeting was adjourned, but I did not notice the time.
